RAM GOPAL VERMA’s VEERAPPAN: DARK, BRUTAL AND SADIST
Guess who’s back in the game? Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal
Verma who rendered classics such as Satya, Company, Shool and Sarakar followed
by duds like Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag is back with a bang. The bang in question
is the movie on the infamous sandalwood smuggler Veerappan. After a prolonged
hiatus, RGV returns to claim the popularity he once enjoyed with this dark,
sadist and brutal venture on the dreaded dacoit.
The trailer is gripping with
an intense background score and renders some bold claims of the largest manhunt
issued to arrest Veerappan with comparison to Osama Bin Laden. Quite ambitious!
The trailer also recounts the horrific deeds of the dacoit with 97 slain cops,
184 civilians, 900 dead elephants and Rs 734 crores spent to capture the
dreaded dacoit.
The film entails the planning of Operation Cocoon. This mission
was headed by the mastermind Commander of the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force,
Vijay Kumar. Veerappan is the Hindi remake of Ram Gopal Varma’s Kannada
directorial debut Killing Veerappan which released on January 1, 2016.
The protagonist is the NSD alumini Sandeep Hardwar, whose
transformation into Veerappan has been attributed to make-up artist Vikram
Gaikwad.
The remake also stars Sachiin J Joshi, Usha Jadhav and Lisa
Ray in pivotal roles. It is scheduled for release on 27 May 2016.
