UDTA PUNJAB: Bollywood Shows Solidarity Amidst Censorship Controversy!

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), headed by Pahlaj Nihalani, have been facing flak since the time they assumed office in 2015. The latest victims of mindless censorship is Udta Punjab, a crime thriller showcasing rampant drug abuse in Punjab

Members of the Indian Film and Television Directors' Association, the body which represents close to 10,000 filmmakers, lent complete support to Udta Punjab producer Anurag Kashyap and to the cause of protecting their freedom of expression which they unanimously said was being constantly and incessantly being challenged by Nihalani.

Filmmakers, including Mahesh Bhatt, Zoya Akhtar, Imtiaz Ali, Rahul Dholakia and Sudhir Mishra, among others, expressed their thoughts on having a board which certifies films and does not take on the role of censoring what should and should not be shown to the people of this country.
