Bollywood actresses got it bang on when talking about ‘Sexism’
Women deal with sexism on a daily basis worldwide, it’s an issue that is at last getting the consideration it deserves. We all know that Bollywood stars have the power to make an issue create awareness and so as such some of our beautiful Bollywood actresses have reminded everyone about gender inequality and sexism in our country through media by sharing their personal life incidents or point of views.
When Bollywood celebrities stand up for a cause it does get attention which is a good thing in a way.Women dealing with such cases on a everyday basis gets a chance to stand up for herself.
Here are 7 times our Bollywood actresses vivaciously opened up about the gender inequality and sexism issue they’ve dealt with or the women of India have dealt since quite a while :
KANGANA RANAUT: Kangana Ranaut opened up about the sexual harassment she faced as a young girl – “I remember when I used to go to school in Chandigarh. When boys are riding cycles they try to touch girls when they go past them. This one guy came so fast at me that he literally punched me in my chest and I fainted right there.I was like that for five minutes. When I got up I wondered if anybody saw me.If anyone had seen that I’d been teased like this and that this happened to me.”
KIRRON KHER: When Kirron Kher was undaunted in her mission to speak in the parliament about the problems women face – “Certain mothers should also be held responsible for the treatment of girls in this country.Mothers who teach their kids that a daughter is supposed to do household chores, cook, and clean. And then once it’s dark she should lock herself inside. That her daughter can’t even have a cell phone. She can’t wear jeans. Do women who wear a burqa, sari,or hide their face with a veil not get raped? Does rape happen only to girls who wear jeans? Above everything, what does jeans even have to do with rape? This is the thinking unfortunately.
LISA HAYDON: When Lisa Haydon was asked “You’re so comfortable with your body and your sexuality. You own it. How does one get there in a country like ours?” Lisa Haydon spoke about having a positive body image -“I think it’s not to perceive it as sexual or sensual. It’s like you said in your intro. My body is my body. It’s something that god gave me. I was born with it and I’ll die with it. It’s my tool to aide me in doing very many things. It facilitates my exercises, it facilitates my job, it helps me run marathons. That’s how i feel about my body. I don’t feel like it’s a vulgar thing, I don’t feel like it’s a sexual object, I don’t feel like that about myself.”
PRIYANKA CHOPRA: Priyanka Chopra in an interview was asked about her view on sexism this is what she had to say – “Men need to stop deflecting and starting defending the women of this country. It’s like saying if a girl is wearing a short skirt then she’s responsible for getting raped. She’s raped because a man raped her. It’s as stupid and regressive as that.”
PARINEETI CHOPRA: Parineeti Chopra lost it on a reporter who had no idea what periods were! “How could you not have knowledge about this? You have a mom? You have a sister? How could you not know about this? Ridiculous. I’m saying this with full respect but you’re a young adult and you have no idea what periods are. You are 26 years old and you don’t know about periods, that’s very shameful. You could become a father but you don’t know what periods are. It’s so sad and that’s why I’m here.
ANUSHKA SHARMA: When Anushka Sharma and Aamir Khan were present at a press meet. A reporter asked Aamir about his weight to which Anushka came up with a mind blowing statement – “Can I just add something really quickly? I’m just so glad today we’re talking about a man’s weight today.Like, wow you’ve gained weight. Otherwise we’re only talking about women and how much weight they’ve gained and how much they have to lose. Aamir, thank you!” now that’s a way to go girl.
HUMA QURESHI ; Huma Qureshi questioned the measures being taken for women’s safety – ” What are we doing about women’s safety? If there’s any kind of problem society tells girls that they shouldn’t go outside. People never really address the actual issue. You can’t really hide your women, your girls, your daughters indoors because the world outside is bad.”
